Anthropic and Iceland Launch One of the World's First National AI Education Pilots

Anthropic has partnered with Iceland's Ministry of Education and Children to launch a pioneering national AI education pilot, providing teachers across Iceland—from Reykjavik to remote villages—access to the advanced AI assistant Claude. This initiative aims to explore how artificial intelligence can enhance education by supporting teachers in lesson preparation and student learning.

The pilot will equip hundreds of teachers with Claude, along with educational resources, training, and support networks. Claude will help teachers save time by automating administrative tasks, personalizing lesson plans, adapting materials for diverse learners, and offering AI-driven student support. The AI model is designed to learn from each teacher's unique methods and materials while recognizing Icelandic and multiple other languages, thereby fostering inclusive and effective learning environments.

Guðmundur Ingi Kristinsson, Iceland’s Minister of Education and Children, emphasized the importance of responsibly harnessing AI's power while safeguarding educational values. The initiative positions Iceland as a leader in integrating AI into public education to improve teaching efficacy and student outcomes.

This pilot builds on Anthropic’s growing collaborations with governments and institutions in Europe, including deployments in the European Parliament Archives and partnerships in the UK public sector and higher education.
