Natural Language Playlist is an AI-powered mixtape tool that generates language-powered playlists through natural language search. Users can log in with Spotify or continue as a guest. The platform emphasizes understanding musical and cultural features to craft playlists that match mood, genre, and lyrical themes, rather than relying solely on explicit artist or track names.

How to Use Natural Language Playlist

1. Login or Continue as Guest. Access your personalized recommendations by logging in with Spotify or exploring as a guest.
2. Describe Your Mood or Theme. Use clear, positive language to define the vibe, genre, tempo, and lyrical themes you want. For example: "Very danceable, positive mood, fast tempo, high energy, songs for lovers."
3. Refine with Cultural and Musical Features. The model excels at genre, lyrical meaning, sonics, and vibes. If you mention specific artist names or tracks, the results may vary; a standard text-based search can be more effective for exact names.
4. Review and Save. Listen to generated playlists, adjust descriptors if needed, and save to your Spotify library.

Tips: Negations can be challenging for the model. Instead of saying 'rock songs that are not loud', use 'rock songs that are quiet'.

Playlist Description Examples

• Use obscure genres and hyper-specific lyrical themes, e.g., "Midwest Emo songs to cry in the shower to because my girlfriend broke up with me."
• Describe the musical features: "Very danceable, positive mood, fast tempo, high energy, songs for lovers."
• Add adjectives and multiple sentences to paint the desired atmosphere.

Natural Language Playlist is an exploration of my past, morphed into a tool that mirrors how I envision a perfect playlist. This project examines the intricate relationship between language, music, and culture. I curated a dataset of textual song metadata to construct playlists with an understanding of each song's musical and cultural traits.
