The system leverages OCR and AI-assisted data extraction to convert filings (PDFs and handwritten notes) into actionable trade details and delivers alerts directly to your inbox. The project started as a personal solution to missed gains and has evolved into a scalable platform with multiple pricing tiers and follow options for different members.

How It Works

  1. Congress member trades are disclosed. Members file stock trades, often with a grace period before the filings appear in public sources.
  2. OCR + GPT-powered extraction. The platform processes filings (PDFs and handwritten notes) using OCR and AI to extract precise trade details (e.g., shares, ticker).
  3. Instant email alerts. You receive real-time notifications as soon as new filings are detected and parsed.
  4. Follow the members you care about. Track one to twenty different Congress members based on your plan.

How It Was Built (The Technical Side)

  • OCR Challenge: Filings come as PDFs or handwritten notes from disclosures-clerk.house.gov. Basic OCR struggled, so the team added AI-powered decoding to extract details like "50 shares of AAPL".
  • Infrastructure: Built on AWS Fargate with Lambda functions to send emails. The system continuously checks for new filings, processes them through the OCR/AI pipeline, and sends alerts.
  • Scalability: Lightweight but capable of handling 500+ users without issues.
